Description

Sertima 50 mg tablet is an antidepressant drug prescribed to treat depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is also used to treat recurrent depression among adults and obsessive-compulsive disorder among children and adolescents between the ages of 6 to 17 years. Moreover, its use is seen in the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), which is a condition that is characterized by depressive symptoms and irritability in individuals in course of menstruation in women.

It has the active ingredient of sertraline, which is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). The drug can be administered before or after meals, as directed by the doctor. Depending on the clinical presentation, the clinician will determine the dosage and dosing schedule that affects the patient. It is normally subjected to treatment at a low dose, which is gradually increased.

Sertima 50 mg must not be adjusted nor the medication terminated without first discussing it with the prescribing physician, not even in the presence of remitting symptoms, as these changes will either aggravate the state or initiate effects of withdrawal, such as anxiety, fidgetiness, palpitations, vertigo, or sleepiness.
